7. Cogen Operational Data Store (ODS), Swindon, UK.

Description The Cogen business operated out of Shirley, Birmingham currently has a central database called the data warehouse. It was originally developed by the business and subsequently redeveloped by an RWE IT UK Ltd resource in SQL Server. Its function is to centrally store and manage key business data in support of day to day business activity. In this respect it can be considered an operational data store (ODS). A previous project (SPRUCE), instigated to undertake a review of business process and data, had as a deliverable a quality assurance exercise against the existing data warehouse. This exercise was carried out by a team from RWE IT UK Ltd who found a number of deficiencies. The current solution, whilst built on a scaleable platform has some inherent weaknesses and the design is not suitable for an enduring platform. In addition ongoing reporting requirements are not possible with the current design. It is, therefore, necessary that an enduring replacement be produced. The scope of this project is to define, design and deliver a scalable sustainable standard IT solution that supports the business requirements.
